Saying Adiós to Instagram

Recently, Instagram has announced and now rescinded their new set of Terms of Service and Privacy Policy that will be taking effect on 16 January 2013. Essentially, the changes reflect Instagram’s action to monetize their users and their content without requiring your knowledge. There are several great write-ups on this, including the following:

Even though Instagram has rescinded their new policies and terms, I am discontinuing my use of Instagram today and will be deleting my Instagram account on 31 December 2012. I have already downloaded all of my Instagram pictures and am in the process of uploading them to Flickr under my “Instagram Archive” set. Using Instagram has been an interesting experiment, but I no longer fully trust Instagram nor happy with the overall quality and presentation of photos.

While Flickr’s policies and terms are not ideal, but as a content producer, I feel like they provide the controls and options to allow me to choose how to present my photos to the world.

I appreciate all of the likes and fans that I have garnered on Instagram and I hope that everyone continues to follow me on this blog, Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
